Never Unseen

Soft pastel on paper

71 x 46 cm

This work is the second in the series ‘Message in a Bottle’.

"Beauty in things exists merely in the mind which contemplates them.” David Hume

Never Unseen is a work of contemplation. On the surface it appears as a work of beauty, and it wants to be beautiful, but it also questions whether beauty is merely an illusion.

It is becoming increasingly harder to distance ourselves from our own destruction and upon closer inspection you will find, somewhere between the sand and the sky, our dirty little secret to which we would like to turn a blind eye.

Can the artwork remain beautiful knowing what you now see? Or does your perception change almost instantly?
